View Full Version : Template system that uses postNuke?

Wanted to bounce an idea off the webmasters here. While working on templates for MPLLC affiliates to use, one of our developers created a few custom modules for the postNuke PHP system that automatically pull and propogate our price list and medication info, as well as create the med categories and price lists.
The system is searchable, skinable with free themes, and highly customizable. We are now considering using it a the primary template system for our OP, and developing advanced add in modules for ecommerce and affiliate link systems.
Thoughts, feedback and suggestions?

Sounds great Aaron.
Just remember to leave the option of allowing your affiliates to create their own sites as well with links thru XML or JavaScript.

utlizing .net webservices would be a plus.

Good comments!
We have a great Javascript system now, and xml is in testing and working well, our system, is entirely .net, so webservices are an option as well.
So do you guys think that this would work for non webmasters that seek templates? Is the postNuke system easy for someone with no html experience to use?
I think it is, but I am a very experienced programmer, so my judgment on that is skewed.

Search out some of your non-technical employees or volunteers from the business next door / down the hall. Sit them down in front of a terminal and see if they can navigate/operate the system without a problem. If so, you got a winner!

I think googlebot can't crawl postnuke based sites. Templates based on postnuke are good enough for those who want to use theirsites for PPC though.

Phalaris,
I think this one is phpnuke :www.deviantart.com but it definately gets crawled. I'll do some research and see if there is a usergroup that knows, definately want something spiderable
Thanks for pointing it out :)

Aaron deviantart.com using mod rewrite sothats why they get spidered and have good results. I two phpnuke sites one mod rewrite andboth havegotten deep crawled by all the top search engines. pleasing results so i say go for it!

Aaron,
Stay away from PostNUKE, it is extremely messy, slow and insecure
I would say stick to simple XHTML output from the server (where the user can select which products to 'stream') and provide a set of CSS style sheets to style the site with. Simple sites are the most effective - not the mess that is postnuke.
If your guys need more info - tell them to drop me a line

That is awesome. I have almost completed my new site in .net and it will be able to use any OP with an XML Order Feed. So I could run multiple OP's with easy integration.
