Hey Guys I just found out about affiliate programs and thought I would give it a go. I am in the process of developing a site and am wondering if I have to have the site live before I sign up to be an affiliate or can I do now while i'm still developing.
Thanks

You might want to do more reading here before you put in too much effort. Believe about 50% of what you read.
There are some affiliate sites that will give you templates for free. That is a great way to get your feet wet. Be warned that search engines have not been kind to this industry. Google will virtually eliminate PPC advertising in about 4 weeks. If you're in it for the long haul, then SEO is the only alternative.
Once you pick a domain name, it should only take you about 24 hours to get up and running (the time it takes to propogate the DNS system).

I've not read it - self taught. Not to say that I know everything - just not enough hours in a day to read everything.
There is pleanty of free information out there. You might want to start with that.
In case you have not seen this other forum, this is a good one for SEO.

You really ought to start at the bottom, no kiddding it is tough on meds, vacation and a few others, lingerie for example was dead easy 9-months ago...now it is fairly tricky and with commission at 5/10% nobody (pro affiliates) goes wild on it.
But even so the competition is fierce.
My advice would be, get involved with something niche to start with, maybe niche authors thru amazon (amazon commission is poor but they are absolutely reliable, you will not get stung)
Then when you get the feel of things, (how to beat competitors in niche products, move on to more lucrative ventures)
In this industry seo skills will decide your success, you cannot buy in anymore, if indeed you could in the past.
Learn the trade and be willing to cut losses, a new site a week is not uncommon
Ok, jump in at the deep end you will sink my friend, unless you have good seo skills

I started in OPs and have decent listings all around for most of my sites... And I live decently from that... smileys/smiley2.gif

While Google is the best - it is not the only search engine to work on - but as Thinker pointed out earlier - Goole will eliminate OP PPC.
Need to put your thinking cap on to find traffic - if everyone tries to get SEO working then it will get really tough.

I've used TGP (Thumbnail Gallery Posts, adult picture galleries containing from 10 to 20 images) to sell Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra with some success. Conversion is about 1:150.
Great way to drive your traffic stats through the roof for Alexa though.

I have spent a fortune trying pop unders, small search engines etc - none of them provide a decent return that compares to Google or Overture.
TGP I have never tried. It sounds about as effective as the small search engines. Thanks for the advice.

TGP???? Someone whacking off to a plastic fantastic bimbo on their computer monitor does not appear to need viagra. They need a girlfriend.
Then again, I remember the story someone posted here a few months ago about the high school kids that took viagra and had to spend the day in the deans office until their perpetual wood died. LOL

Experience can be a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.
Just read that off todays calendar - seems to apply here. http://www.rxaffiliateforum.com/smileys/smiley10.gif
