View Full Version : Cheap Dedicated Hosting Solution

hi,
Here is my problem:
I want to set up a bunch of new sites. Mostly not rx, a few
different affiliate programs, and a few that are unrelated to affiliate
programs.
A VDS- Virtual Dedicated Server- seems to be the right option,
yeah? Or Virtual Private Server, whatever the difference is?
I do not want to buy virtual hosting for each and every
site. It would be nice if I could sell hosting with my
unused space, but that's not a huge deal at the moment.
What is a cheap solution? I'd like dedicated hosting. I do
not want to spend a lot and do not have the time/expertise to manage a
dedicated server, doing everything myself. I need to make about
10 websites, with
the potential for maybe 5-10 more. I have a plan myself for what
I'm giong to do with them.
I just wanted to know what you guys recommend- the cheapest way to do
this. Each site does not require much space, not even 10 mb per
space. What is the best solution for people in my
situation? Is there some sort of entry-level dedicated
hosting? Or some kinda deal on virtual hosting where it's all
managed in one place and I can change domain names at will?
I need to do this inexpensively.
Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,

I may want to do gambling affiliates at some point. I have some
places lined up for offshore hosting. I don't want to make the
whole thing offshore because then people doing a WHOIS maybe will think
I'm not legit.
Anyway, the gambling can hold off for now because I have other
prospects, but if there is a solution that incorporates all of this-
I'm all ears.
Thanks again

This actually looks ideal for my purposes:

With VDS500
Wonder if a plesk or cpanel solution is better for me?
You guys advise that for my purposes? Any competitors I should look at?
Thanks

I like CPanel solutions the best (personal preference)
If you plan to do alot of SEO tactics (rather than PPC), I would recommend multiple smaller hosting accounts from different Class C IP addresses (using different hosting companies is a good start)
For most of what you are (I assume) going to bedoing, virtual private hosting probably does not offer much advantage over simple shared hosting.

I agree with rf33.
I personally like http://www.hostgator.com and http://www.dathorn.com.
Both have given me great service at reasonable cost.

I don't want the $200 expense of a dedicated server. I am
marketing my ideas just through PPC, not through SEO. It's not rx
stuff, it's other affiliate programs like debt consolidation for
example.
With one of these Virtual Dedicated Server setups, for $30/mo. I can
get the ability to host 20 mains, and plesk or cpanel are already
installed and setup- everything is ready for me to go.
Does anyone have experience with these places?
The virtual private advantage would be cost and the time/expense/hassle
in setting up a server and taking care of it on the admin end myself.
All I want to do is 10 websites, each looking like they are their own
domain. I don't want to pay for virtual hosting separately for
each site- I went the benefit of a dedicated server without the expense.
So why not go with the virtual private setups? Anyone?
Thanks

So- why would I use a dedicated server for $200-300/mo., when I can get the same features for $30/mo.?
This is what I don't understand.

If you are looking for offshore, try shinjiru.com - get the reseller package for $345 per year. 500MB storage, unlimited domains, unlimited bandwidth, Plesk Admin.
Oops, price went up. It is currently $373US per year

I am about to look around here (Costa Rica) for dedicated hosting ... as I see interest everywhere I go, I might even put a server somewhere and sell some space ...
here gambling and betting (sportsbooks) is legal, the only thing NOT TO DO here is PORN ....
for now I can suggest Dallas Colocation as I am using it for many of my sites .... $70 a month with 200gb xfer ... and you can buy an OK dell for around $400 (after mail in rebate) ....
the problem with offshore: it is expensive and slow (mean more expensive and slower than in-US-hostings)
but I will look and post it here ....
just a small survey: do you guys usually need .asp module and frontpage extension, and fancy control panel
or would you be OK with a Apache+mysql+FreeBSD(or Debian Linux) ...sftp+ssh+sslpop/imapssl ?
I would maybe really put a server and resell some megs of space
but I really do not feel like making it a USER friendly monkey system ... because usually it means insecure, and I just do not have the time now to mess with installing control panels and other crap like that ...
also I might put together machines and shove it into a hosting, but I have no idea right now how much I would ask for it (maybe I can give support for it unless it is a windows server - that I do not feel like touching :)
anyway, any suggestions are welcome, ... in the meantime I look around for hosting ...

http://www.jumpline.com/vds_hosting.php is $20-50/mo. and others with virtual dedicated are like that too.
rackspace, ev1servers, and all the other true dedicated places are in the hundreds.
I don't need to run my own server- I just want 10 websites and no other
hassle. I just want to make them and market them- I don't want to
run a server myself.
Is there a speed issue here? A reliability issue?
All I need is to make 10 websites.
Why spend the extra money? I need this be clarified- I genuinely do not understand.
Thanks.

I think they had packages of 3 (sites) around $20 a month or less .... i don't remember and I am lazy to check, but go on and see their packages ... their support is helpful so ask them for special deals !
