Below is a copy of a letter I sent to the editor of the Washington Post. I plan to send letters like this one to every elected official I can get an address on.
For many years I've been deceived by your paper.
I had always believed the Post to be the repository of the greatest minds in the journalistic world. As a child I fantasized about being a writer for your great publication, but as time went by and I came of age I realized I did not have what it takes. I'm having second thoughts lately.
Over the last few weeks you have published a series of articles concerning internet pharmacies. You have paraded members of the DEA and FDA into your offices and quoted their words as if they were the Gospel of John. According to your publication there is no room in this world for internet pharmacies. Doctors, Pharmacies, and Webmasters are the perpetrators of a great evil upon the world. I argue that is the same as telling Edison there was no place in this world for the light bulb.
The DEA has made it impossible for patients suffering from chronic pain to obtain prescriptions thru intimidation and persecution. Patients are met with stone faced indifference to their pain. 100 years ago there were no effective treatments for pain, now that there is one you deny it because of a small percentage of abusers. In your world there is more compassion for animals as they are just put out of their misery. As an alternative let's identify the abusers and treat the sick. These people who live in misery are not criminals or addicts they are the weakest among us, and agony is their constant companion.
I'm sure your asking yourself if I use these strong medications. The answer is absolutely not. The reason I feel so strongly about this is I've seen the suffering first hand. I watched my older brother die of a brain tumor. Three weeks before he died he was released into the Hospice program. He had lost his ability to speak and to swallow. Hospice did dispense pain pills f
