California Affiliates had better get prepared, California Assembly Bill 178, co-authored by Charles Calderon (D) and Nancy Skinner (D) will be even more devastating than the NY bill.
More information here (http://nyaffiliatevoice.com/2009/02/california-affiliates-get-ready/)

Not sure how this affects affiliates and businesses in this industry. However there is concern that all states in USA will be looking at this sort of legislation for revenue raising as things continue to tighten. However stupid policy seems.
How have NY affiliates managed?

I think all Affiliates based in USA need be aware of what is happening. There are some good suggestions in link above but not specific to Rx.

Feedback from Pharmacy programs would also be helpful. Particularly those based in USA.

"In New York State, tens of thousands affiliates were terminated from affiliate programs by merchants, and we expect the passage of AB 178 will have the same impact in California."

From http://www.gov.ca.gov/press-release/12650/

'California lawmakers proposed a tax on affiliate advertising and sent legislation to the Governor, but as promised he vetoed it because we cannot solve our budget deficit by raising taxes and driving businesses out of the state.'
