Information was just received that Vincent Chhabra has been jailed as a result of failing to comply with his plea agreement.

Judge is said to have said since Chhabra did not want to comply, he could begin serving his sentence now. Chhabra was then escorted out of the courtroom by marshals.

No word on how this will effect his plea agreement and reduced sentence of 33 months, as sentence ONLY applied if he FULLY COMPLIED.

Will post updates as information is gathered.

Interesting. What in the plea agreement didn't he comply with?

Here's more info for anyone interested:

On May 10,2005, the government filed a motion to declare Mr. Chhabra in breach of his

plea agreement on the grounds that (1) he has not been cooperative about disclosing his assets,

    (2) he has not been truthful about his assets, (3) he has not obtained assets from third parties, (4)

he has hidden assets, (5) he did not complete a required disclosure form, and (6) he has failed to

repatriate assets. Among other things, the motion requests that the government be released from

its obligations under the plea agreement, including the provisions concerning sentencing. We</span><br style="font-weight: bold;">
understand that a hearing on the motion has been scheduled for June 3,2005.</span>

Complaint Counsel will continue to press Respondents to focus on this matter and reach a

    settlement as quickly as possible.
